My car just shut off and said low oil pressure...?

I have a 2005 Ford Explorer with only 40k miles on it. I just bought it last week and was making a right hand turn today and it just shot off, the power steering and brakes were hard to maneuver, but I called the dealership and told them, so I'm taking it in. The sign that came on though, said LOW OIL PRESSURE, can that cause a car to just shut off like that. I'm scared if it would have done that in the middle of traffic, I wouldn't have been able to handle the situation as I did with just small traffic today.
